Easter was a lovely chance to take a break and escape the city for a few days. We couldn’t go away for the entire time due to other commitments, but we made the most of a three night getaway to Waiheke Island.
Our annual Egg Hunt was this year able to be enjoyed by our daughter who recently turned 1. Usually it’s just a chance for Mr S to scour the backyard for as much chocolate as he can possibly find. It was so fun this year to include a little someone. I never hunt for chocolate, hiding the eggs is my thing and I get a huge kick out of creating the hunt. I must have missed out somehow on receiving a fairly typical female gene because I am not a huge fan of chocolate. That’s not to say I don’t have a sweet tooth however – give me a bag of Licorice Allsorts or Sour Worms any day!So, off into the garden I go, bulging bag of chocolate eggs in hand (and a cute little marshmallow lollipop thing for the wee one) and find some worthy hiding spots. It was different this time in that I had to place some a lot lower, yet still find some difficult spots for my husband & the grandparents to reach. I issued some rules this year – like “if you find more than your share, make sure you don’t just pocket them because you can, share them around”. Yet once the hunt began, it was pretty obvious that everyone just wanted to watch little T find her loot and help her seek out the next one. It’s amazing how a baby or cute small person always commands the most attention just by virtue of their presence!
Look how pleased she is with her finds
We enjoyed a few walks along the beach, read lots, met up with some friends for coffee, had a family dinner, watched some Easter movies and generally just relaxed.
Our little one did a spot of reading herself. She’s obsessed with books at the moment and can read and re-read the same one a million times in a row. Check out how adorable she is just chillaxing (my Dad’s newest word!). And that’s her wee friend Dora beside her. However, I think Dora got sick of listening to the same story again and again so has rolled over and gone to sleep!
