If you follow me on Instagram, you will know that a couple of weeks ago I was gifted one of the new Farro Foodkits from Farro Fresh. I was invited to make a selection from the extensive range of meal options and it arrived a couple of nights later on my doorstep delivered by an Urgent Courier.
Inside the box were all the ingredients required for making the meal of my choice which was the Northern Chinese Roasted Spiced Lamb with Coriander Tomato Salsa, Pita Bread and Greens.
The parcel arrived on Wednesday night at 6:30pm and I was scheduled to cook it the on Friday night (I had a prior engagement for dinner on Thursday). The printed material accompanying the fresh ingredients suggested cooking the meal within 3-4 days of dispatch so I felt confident leaving it a couple of days. The quality of produce and products from Farro are that good!
The box contained a bag of fresh produce, spices, sauces and pita bread and another sealed foil bag containing the butterflied lamb leg on an icepack, as well as a bundle of paperwork which includes a personalised letter, the recipe and preparation notes, meal kit photos, and the method.
The very straight forward method was simply explained in step by step instructions and from woe to go, the meal took just over an hour to prepare. Whilst the lamb was in the oven, I prepped the salsa, heated the pita breads and chopped the vegetables. The suggested serving was for four people, and though we were feeding only two adults and two children, I think there was enough lamb for around six adults. We had so much lamb left over!
I made a yoghurt, lemon juice and paprika dip to accompany the meal, mostly to give some moisture as I find pita breads can be quite dry without a sauce of some sort, and this simple yoghurt solution worked perfectly with the existing flavours and also helped to balance out the spice of the rub which was quite strong. The spice was too overpowering for my kids but thankfully I was able to slice some pieces from the non-spice-coated side to avoid the chilli for them.
I highly recommend a Farro Foodkit for those nights when you are expecting company and want everything to arrive prepared and requiring little effort or brain power but is guaranteed to result in full flavours and an impressive spread. These meals are also perfect for working Mama’s who don’t want the commitment of an all week-long delivery service, but like the idea of having the guess work removed a couple of nights a week. There are amazingly priced options ranging from $20 – $60 and an extensive range of meal types available.
The Foodkits must be ordered online, you can not buy in store, so be sure to pay the website a visit.
** I was gifted my choice of a FoodKit to try for my family and am sharing the results with you because I genuinely believe this to be a great product and will purchase myself in future. I have not been paid for this review and as always, all opinions are my own.
