How does each week just fly by so fast? I watched a beautiful video featuring old and young sharing time together last night and in it an elderly woman in a wheel chair remarked (when watching the toddlers on the playground) “them old years go by in a hurry” to which her companion replied “yeah, they do don’t they?”. I went to sleep thinking about that last night and I woke this morning with it still in my mind. Everyone says it and I’m sure if you’re a parent now you’ll also find yourself saying often how fast time is flying. That’s why I am more than conscious of trying to slow it down, making the most of each and every moment. But it’s tough in the hustle and bustle sometimes isn’t it? What does that actually mean? Taking time for the small things?
For me… it’s getting on the floor and fooling around with my baby. It’s turning my phone onto silent when we’re doing after school snacks and it’s taking time to appreciate everything I have. Telling my family how much I love them and trying to show them as best I can in their language of love. Of course I’m not perfect and there are times when I forget to do these things but I’m trying to keep reminding myself that one day it will all look so different and I want to be happy with how I spent these younger years.
Well that was pretty deep!!
Back to our regular programming – it’s time for a round up of my Favourites on Fridays for this week:
1. I have been fortunate enough to receive two Black Boxes in the space of 2 weeks and unfortunately I have devoured two of these cookies in 1 second flat as soon as I’ve opened them. I am not gluten-free by any stretch of the imagination, but OMG… this GF Cookie Time Cookie is better than the original in my opinion. It is amazing! Try one for yourself and tell me I’m lying!
2. My husband popped a little set of this Moringa range from The Body Shop in my stocking last Christmas and I’ve been putting it on my hands before bed every night this week. It smells incredible – fresh, floral and yum. It’s beautifully rich for super-dry-skin nourishment and the wee body butter size is also perfect to carry in my handbag.
3. This Green Balm from Little & Loved is one of our all time favourite bottom creams for babes. It is 100% natural and contains goodies like NZ organic hempseed & calendula oils, virgin wheatgerm & olive oils, NZ beeswax, NZ lavender essential oil, rosemary leaf extract and chlorophyll colour! It’s also perfect for bumps and bruises and general soothing of dry skin. I have been using it a lot this week on a red and ouchy bottom as more molars make their way into my smallest ones mouth!
4. I’ve tried to get off the computer less this past week and spend ‘quality’ time with my husband in the evenings which has in truth involved binge-watching Nashville & starting a knitting project. I knit a new scarf every Winter. I think I’ve done this every year since we got married (just gone 8 years!) I have never completed a scarf and spend the beginning of the next Winter unravelling that which I started the previous season!!! It goes without saying I am a rubbish knitter and not that crafty, but I must kind of enjoy the challenge. Last year I splurged on circular needles which was incredibly ambitious of me (!) and I’m attempting this cowl-styled scarf. I’ve already made several mistakes but I’m thinking it may be one I finish! I’ll keep you updated!
This weekend involves playdates galore, fish and chips with friends, a visit to the Hot Pools tomorrow and a dinner party with adults tomorrow night after the kids are in bed. I can’t wait to prepare a yummy Wintery three course meal.
What have you got planned for this weekend?
