Today is my baby sisters’ birthday. She’s nine and a half years younger than me so that makes her 29 today. I can’t believe it! I still think of her as about eight (which I’m sure she loves – not!!) I find it a little scary how fast the days and weeks rush by doing these weekly features, but when I stop and celebrate an actual milestone like her birthday, I realise how fast the years are passing, how close she is to 30, and I gotta admit… it completely weirds me out! So, if she’s 30 this year, I’m 40 next year and so on. My Mama is 60 this year and so the cycle continues. How did we all get so freaking old!????????
Makes me even more intent on stopping to smell the roses, celebrating the small victories of each week and finding gratitude in my heart at the end of each day for all the good things in my life.
Without further adieu – or I might start getting all philosophical – here are my Favourites on Fridays for this week:
I had a yucky head cold last week and was blowing my nose like a fog horn. Lots of wiping and obviously a very depleted immune system saw me with a coldsore blooming early on Saturday morning. I haven’t had one in quite a few years now so I know I must be really low in everything vital. Where I would usually head straight for Zovirax, I had done a lot of reading about how Geranium essential oil was great for naturally killing off the virus and drying them up. I have some in my stash of oils and began enthusiastically applying it. It definitely dried up the coldsore, but in my enthusiasm I didn’t dilute it enough with a carrier oil and now I’ve essentially burnt the skin on my face since these oils are so wonderfully potent. Duh duuuuuh. I know better for next time. In the meantime I look a fright! *sad face*. No matter how great my brows look, it’s not distracting from the big red welt in the middle of my face. LOL!
My hottie has been a lifesaver this week. With the freeeeeezing weather and chilly chilly nights, I have found this little guy a blessing. We do have an electric blanket but I just can never be bothered putting it on the bed so most Winters it stays bundled up in the cupboard. We’ve had to keep our bedroom door shut since having Simba around, since his favourite activity is running up my new curtains, which means that having the room all shut up like that at the end of the hallway, our room gets zero heating from the heat pump. When it’s time to retire for the evening, opening the door to our room is the equivalent of climbing into a chest freezer! I recently bought a little cover for mine which makes it extra cosy by my toes.
I was sent this new version of Pure Delish’s No-Grain-Ola and OMG I almost died and went to heaven. It probably would have been much healthier eaten with almond milk, but I knew if I poured regular blue milk all over it, it was gonna be amaaaazing. And I was right! It was amaaaazing. Like eating dessert for breakfast – which everyone wants to do!! WIth only 12.3g per 100grams of sugar, it’s a pretty good option for both health conscious peeps and us regular plebs too I think! I can’t find the exact version on their website yet (I think it’s brand new and being launched at the upcoming Food Show), but if you’re not able to attend the Food Show, keep your eyes on the Pure Delish website for when it will be released into the marketplace!
We took the kids and 3 friends each to see Inside Out last weekend. It was such a cute wee movie and far exceeded my expectations. But the standout part for us all was the short film Lava which screened beforehand. Initially I thought we were in the wrong cinema but I guess the short movie before the real movie is the new thing to do in kids films? Such a super cute story, very touching and emotional and that dudes voice. WOW! We have downloaded the song on iTunes and my little Miss & her Daddy have learnt it on the guitar and have a wee duet happening – super cute! The male voice is so sweet and beautiful and completely reminiscent of this amazing song that we had at our wedding, and I just wish a sweeter female voice had joined him in this cute song. Have you seen the film? Did you love it too?
I hope you’ve got an amazing weekend planned. I’m going to get my hair done tomorrow which is long overdue – both in terms of the greys popping up here, there and everywhere, and mostly for the relaxation I appreciate with any salon session! And apart from that, with family visiting from out of town, there is going to be lots of catching up and hanging out with lots of lovely people.
Hope you have a great one too. And on Monday I’ll have the Raw Choc Orange Slice recipe for you too! It’s definitely a winner.
