Come bed time, I always, always wash my face. Usually it goes a little something like this: foaming face wash, rinse. Repeat. Swipe eye make up remover over stubborn mascara and then apply night cream. I have normal to dry skin, but usually use something on the lighter side on my skin at night, rather than a super heavy-duty cream.
The newest product from natural skincare guru Dr Hauschka is this Night Serum. At a beautiful launch event, settled comfortably into oversized beanbags, sipping on Organic Apple Tea and devouring the most incredible Mini Apple Cake known to man, I learnt all about the Dr Hauschka Oil-free Night Care philosophy. To be honest it got me second guessing everything I’ve been known to practice previously. Not only that, it made me question the facial oil trend that is all the rage lately.
For those of you also unfamiliar, a bit of background:
- Oil-free, light and packed full of stimuli
- Helps the skin rediscover its natural balance
- Guides the skin’s essential night-time work
- Stimulates the natural renewal processes
The wonderfully fragrant formulation containing apple fruit hydrosol and apple blossom extract supports the skin’s natural rhythms while guiding it through its essential night-time work.
I have been using this Dr Hauschka Night Serum for almost seven weeks now which feels like a long enough period to form an opinion on it and tell you more about it from my personal experience.
This serum is a water based product and is very light. It smells delicious which is important to me in any product I use. I dislike fragrance free products so I really enjoyed the light fresh fragrance. After cleansing my face, I spritz it with Plantae Rose Otto Essential Water and then apply a pea sized amount of the serum into my palm, rub my hands together and gently pat the serum all over my face and neck and decollete. It feels beautiful to apply. And because it contains no oil and is not at all heavy in it’s formulation, it begins to ‘dry’ quite quickly, making your skin feel taut. I have to say that upon waking, the tautness has disappeared and my skin feels much the same as it would if I’d applied a richer cream.
What I have noticed though is that my skin is much less even than normal and I’ve experienced a few breakouts recently that I am not usually prone to. Whether this is an external expression of my flu-like symptoms I’ve been suffering for the past month or so I have no idea. Perhaps it’s my skin adjusting to the new regime which eliminates oil and encourages my own skin to regenerate itself overnight and in doing so is expelling toxins?
While I have really enjoyed using a product that is unlike anything I’ve tried before, I will most likely return to my usual night cream when this tube of Night Serum is finished. Perhaps it’s just because it’s what I know, but I to me a night cream feels more luxurious.
