Friday is upon us again. It’s been a nice week – less frantic and a little less sickness in our home and more time to just blob. The weather has been a mix too of sunshine and brilliance and just enough warmth to dry everlasting loads of laundry and dismal and grey and Wintery cold, but being that I’ve been sticking close to home, even the dreary weather hasn’t bothered me.
Here are four things that have helped make my week a goody! My Favourites on Friday for this first week of August:
I am a Weleda fan and swear by their Teething Powder for my babes, their Pomegranate Skin Care range is beautiful and now I’ve been introduced to their Skin Food – a deeply nourishing and intensely hydrating whole-body cream that restores and protects your skin. I’ve been using it for my hands which are always so so dry in these conditions. It’s super rich, but not greasy and I love that it uses only natural ingredients and delicious essential oils for scent.
When it comes to binge watching TV shows, none has me so hooked as Nashville. Actually, that’s a lie. We were pretty caught up on Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones and House of Cards. What I mean to say is, none has me as hooked as Nashville this week! I’ve borrowed the DVD from a friend and I try to make sure all my chores and nightly blogging things are done as early as possible so I can squeeze in two episodes before a realistic bed time. In actuality, bed time has been a little later than should be and come next week, when I’m off to the gym in the tiny hours of the morning, late night binge watching of shows, no matter how good they are will be put to an end! I better find some time this weekend then to binge away!
At least several times a week at ours, the mood will strike for a kitchen dance party. Our current favourite song to get groovy to is this Calvin Harris song. We crank it up on our UE Boom and the kids and I go nuts. Even the little one bounces his booty and begs to be picked up for some spinning action. It’s better loud, so if you haven’t heard this song yet, or you don’t make random dance parties a big deal in your kitchen, I can highly recommend this track for helping you introduce a new trend.
And lastly, but by no means leastly, my week has been ever brightened by the arrival of the long-anticipated, much-awaited cook book from the immeasurably talented Unna Burch of The Forest Cantina. You may or may not be familiar with her work, and if you’re not, get familiar stat! Her imagery is perfect and her recipes are simple but delicious. Last year I was so thrilled to be able to test a couple of her recipes and they’re still some of my favourites to prepare for dinner guests (or just ourselves). This book arrived on Tuesday and on Wednesday I christened it by making three things from it for a family gathering. Each one was perfect. If you want your own copy, and I can assure you you do, click here to head to Unna’s website and make a purchase. And after finding it just too difficult to organise a trip to Wellington to attend her Wellington On a Plate workshops this month, I am super excited to have booked my spot at her upcoming Auckland Workshop in September. It will be such a treat to finally meet this lovely lady and learn some of her tips and tricks in person. If you are interested in attending too, you can click here for more information on the Homestyle magazine workshop (you get a copy of the cookbook in your goody bag too!)
I’m looking forward to a low-key weekend. I have a sick child at home today so this weekend is perfect to take it slow and hope for healing vibes to overtake us once and for all! I hope you’ve got a wonderful weekend planned, whether it’s full to bursting of fun family times or relaxed and peaceful in your abode… enjoy and I’ll be back on Monday.
