Since starting The Bubbalino Kitchen, I have discovered a whole online world of beautiful people putting together gorgeous, inspiring, entertaining and just plain awesome content. Some of them you may have encountered already, others you may never have heard of. I hope by bringing you this series I’m calling Getting Frank with Foodies, I might introduce you to some pretty wonderful Kiwis both here and abroad. Each Wednesday I will bring you someone I admire and respect and share with you their answers to my five foodie questions. I hope you enjoy.
I followed Velvet Delight on Instagram from very early on and I fell in love with her incredible looking cupcakes so hard that I had to take a trip to the Hobsonville Point Markets to try her goodies in person and meet the face behind this delicious looking insta-feed. She has recently scaled back her baking since returning to full time work, but her skills in the kitchen are still in regular demand. The cupcake flavours and combinations she comes up with are absolutely mouth-wateringly incredible.
I recently asked Brooke my Five Foodie Questions and loved learning more about what makes this girl tick! Get cozy and get reading.
What is your earliest food memory?
My love affair with baking started with my earliest food memory being baking steamed puddings and custard or afghans with my grandmother. I was in such awe of the treats she would make. I’ve spent years trying to replicate her caramel meringue slice.
Tell me about your proudest food moment.
My proudest moments in baking have been each and every smile that I’ve witnessed while customers eat my cupcakes. It fills me with joy every time.
What is your biggest food dream? (What is your loftiest goal? What do you hope to achieve in your food journey?)
While my business started as a dream to build a cupcake empire, I’ve had to reassess that dream. I still love to bake however my foremost focus is my family and being present for them while creating and nurturing a healthier fitter lifestyle for us all.
Your most favourite ingredient and why?
My most favourite ingredient is vanilla bean paste. It enhances everything and creates the most divine flavour. My most favourite thing to make is Salted Caramel.
If you could create the perfect scene including your dream person, in a dream location indulging in a dream meal – what would that look like? Person, place and meal?
The perfect meal to me would be a dessert degustation with my hubby on a tropical beach. I’m still taking orders periodically and it’s nice baking for love again and not because I have to to pay the bills. Feel free to add a link to my FB or IG pages. Thanks for asking me to do this love. I feel honoured. I’m sorry if this is too late and you’ve stopped these foodie updates.
Please take a moment to check out Brooke’s social media channels!
I hope you’re enjoying this series as much as I am. I can’t wait to bring you another wonderful foodie next week. If there are any particular Kiwi bloggers or foodies you would like me to ask my five questions of, don’t hesitate to make a suggestion.
