With warmer weather in the air and sunshine visiting more frequently, I like to keep a little something up my sleeve (or in my freezer actually) which helps the kids cool off on hot afternoons after never-ending bouncing on the trampoline or chasing each other around the house. I also like having something on hand that turns me into SuperMama in an instant. I feel like I say no a lot when it comes to “Can I have a biscuit? Can I have a lolly from that goody bag from so and so’s birthday party that’s still in the pantry?” I am not anti-treats by any stretch of the imagination, but I do like to watch their intake – like any good parent right!?
So most Summer’s I keep a bag of mini popsicles or Mini Moo iceblocks or Juicies in the freezer drawer for such occasions. This Summer though, I have the best trick up my sleeve ever!
I’ve got a Zoku Quick Pop Maker*. I’ve had my eye on one of these little beauties for a while and am absolutely loving it! It’s a wonderful little gadget that you keep in your freezer so it’s always cold and whenever the mood for a little iced treat strikes, you just mix up your desired ingredients to create whatever flavour you have a hankering for, pour it into the pre-chilled Zoku and sit and watch in awe as your liquid turns to solid in 7-9 minutes. Voila – you’re eating your own homemade ice-block just like that! My kids think it’s magic.
With the Zoku Quick Pop Maker you have the luxury of completely controlling the ingredients of your popsicle and can guarantee there are no extras going in. We’ve had so much fun playing around with this machine and the kids are totally in love with it. It came with a wonderful recipe book full of drool-worthy recipes and suggestions for flavour combos and amazing imagery for layering, adding garnishes and fancy extras and Miss 6 loves flipping through the pages to suggest the next kind we should make.
Our first creation was these Lemonade Jelly Tot Popsicles which the kids adored with it’s bright pops of candy and chewy little treasures to stop and eat along the way. And more recently we made these incredibly delicious Caramelised Banana & Coconut pops from the recipe book.
I’m thinking these Cherry Chocolate ones might be next on my list – and I’ll be able to eat them all myself since no one else in my family likes cherries. There are so many other amazing flavours to try and I’ve been working on a Salted Caramel version and a Marshmallow & Coconut one that I’ve not yet perfected, but believe me when I have, you will hear all about it.
My smallest babe loves these just as much as the bigs and surprisingly he can get through it like a pro… even with all that ‘cooooold’. We sit out on the deck so all those little drips are well taken care of (although the Zoku come with little drip guards) and bask in the sunshine while munching away on our Zoku pops.
I am so excited to have of these amazing little machines to giveaway! Summer is coming and you need a Zoku so head on over to my FB page to be in to win.
