My (all too long ago) facial treatment at Ashleigh Scott Facialist was more than just an incredibly luxurious and relaxing experience. It’s hard not to love an indulgent facial, it’s true, but my hour in the magic hands of Kate was as educational and informative as it was restorative and this made it all the more special.
Since that beautiful morning I have been employing all that I learned and after using the technique of soaking over the past few weeks, my skin couldn’t be happier. In conjunction with the tips and tricks Kate shared with me, I have been using Ashleigh’s own hand-blended skin care products including the Tribeca Cleansing Balm and Tribeca Glow Oil which are truly beautiful, so I wanted to share with you my experience of Tribeca Skin Tonics products on my skin.
The Tribeca Cleansing Balm is a luxurious and nourishing cleansing balm developed to gently deep cleanse the skin. It contains Jojoba Oil, Grape Seed Oil, Hemp Seed Oil, Shea Butter, Beeswax, Calendula, Honey, Frankincense, Lavender and Rose. Told you it was luxurious.
And the Glow Oil has been especially developed for devitalised, dry or ageing skin (that would be me). Hand-blended oil combining Avocado, Grape Seed, Baobab, Lavender, and Rose oils. Tribeca oils can either be used instead of a regular moisturiser, or on top of or underneath your regular moisturiser to give you extra.
And though the products are truly beautiful, the thing that has made the biggest difference to my skin is using these in combination with “Soaking”.
WHAT THE HECK IS SOAKING? YOU ASK.
That was exactly what I asked Kate as she first talked about it during my treatment. Then she covered in depth it’s purpose. You know when you have a facial and as each product is removed, the therapist takes a hot towel and places it over your face, leaving only your nose and mouth exposed, before pressing and them gently wiping away the product? The act of playing a moistened hot cloth over your skin and leaving it to hydrate for a spell before removing and repeating is known as soaking. Simple huh? The notion is that you allow moisture to penetrate deep into your skin and in doing so, provide a wonderfully nourishing hydration of your skin using only water. It makes sense and it’s so simple. And it works!
With these two beautiful products now in my life, my night time skincare routine looks like this:
- I take a small amount of the Tribeca Cleansing Balm and rub it around in my palms.
- I apply it to my face and rub around in big circular motions, really working away my make up.
- Dampen hands and rework into skin. This emulsifies the balm and helps it work in even deeper.
- Take a hot facecloth and lay it on my face for a few seconds, gently pressing into my skin.
- Wipe away the balm and make up.
- Once I have done a double cleanse using the balm, I then do an additional ‘soak’ using just the reheated/remoistened facecloth.
- Following the cleanse, I take 2 drops of the Tribeca Glow Oil and (here is the important part), add a drop or two of water to it before rubbing around in my palms and applying to my face.
I have been using other oils at night for a while but always found they were a little too slick. I found it hard to get them to spread into my skin without using more than a couple of drops and since I am a tummy sleeper, and thereby lay my face on the pillow, I wondered how much oil was actually able to penetrate into my face before I drifted off to dreamy-dream land. Kate said I should never put oil onto dry skin, so by adding a couple of drops of water to the Glow Oil before I apply it to my face, it somehow changes to a beautiful consistency, perfectly able to absorb into my skin. I always believed that oil and water didn’t mix right? But you have to try this and tell me you don’t love it!
And now my morning routine looks like this:
- Brush my teeth.
- Wash my face with a hot facecloth.
- Apply my favourite day moisturiser.
- Apply primer, make up etc if wearing.
I have done away with morning cleansing since it never really made much sense to me to be ‘cleansing’ in the morning with product since all I’d done since my last cleanse at the end of the day was sleep. I’ve also done away with using my foaming facial cleanser since it’s not the first time I’d been told it was probably too harsh for my skin, stripping my face of good oils. I thought I would miss the ‘squeaky clean’ feeling that a foaming face wash gives, but I can honestly say I haven’t missed it at all.
My skin feels incredible. And it’s all thanks to simplifying my skincare routine and eliminating unneccessary extra products. I still use a face masque every month or so, but I’m trying to do less, not more, with my skin and my skin is thanking me for it. You can purchase the Ashleigh Scott Tribeca Skin Tonics Skincare range from her website. There are three different oils in the range and the Cleansing Balm is perfect for all skin types. You can also purchase smaller 10ml sized bottles if you want to test the products out for yourself.
I would love to hear if you have tried “soaking” and if it has made a difference for you. Or, if you haven’t tried it, give it a go and let me know what you think. Remember – add a couple of drops of water to your face oil before you apply it. Magic!
