It gets to this time of year and it hits us all – tickly throats, runny noses, pesky coughs. I absolutely hate this time of year and just last night asked my husband why we shouldn’t move to a climate that is Summer all year round. When I lived in LA in my 20’s, it rained for approximately two weeks in two entire years. I loved it! That my friends, is my ultimate climate. Not too hot, not too humid, never too cold and minimal rainfall.
But since I no longer live there and instead find myself in a city where rain is frequent and fluctuating temperatures are the norm, I have to get creative when thinking about my family health regime. I try to cook with lots of vegetables, incorporating homemade stocks and bone broths and plenty of fresh fruit to up Vitamin C levels and keep the family healthy at this time of year. Sometimes however, it seems we all need a little something extra to assist so you call in the big guns.
In a bid to stave off these awful chills and bugs that come with the changing temperatures, I recently met with Janeen Howard from GOHealthy for a Warrant of Wellness. Similar to a WOF for our vehicles, this consult involved a series of questions about my health, both physical and mental, my moods, my lifestyle and my diet. It was really interesting being asked a bunch of things that I hadn’t thought about too much – sleep patterns, stress levels etc. It was a private consultation in a beautiful locale which allowed me to relax and open up given that all answers were in confidence. The two year old in the corner of the room trying to turn up Thomas was a little non-relaxing, but ahhhhh #mumlife #bloggerlife~
Based on the answers I provided, Janeen then prescribed me a range of products from the GOHealthy and GOSuperfood ranges to aid in bringing me to and keeping me at my optimum health over the coming months and I was lucky enough to be sent a complementary selection of products tailored specifically for me and my needs and concerns. The range of goodies she has prescribed for me involves a bunch of great products all available from these ranges of natural health products. I try to avoid drugs and medicines wherever possible and opt for natural healthcare options for myself and my family for the most part.
Already popping pills each morning, and encouraging my wee ones to start on their own journey of healthy living with daily vitamins, fish oil and probiotics, my daily intake is about to get a little more serious and I’m going to need a pill box soon to get them all in order!
So from this week I am starting on a program that looks a little like this:
Products to take daily:
GO Probiotic 40 Billion: 1 capsule per day. This has been prescribed for daily intake to support ultimate gut health. Keeping in mind 70% of the immune system lies in the gut, if your gut is not in tip top shape, then chances are your immune system can be compromised. I have been recommended a probiotic to help repopulate the good gut bacteria and support the overall health of my immune system.
GO Stress Remedy: 1-2 capsules
Stress, although not a huge issue in my life at present, is a constant issue we are all faced with on a daily basis, especially when juggling work and family commitments. GO Stress Remedy is just such a great product! GO Stress Remedy works quickly and effectively to promote calm, while not effecting energy levels or slowing down concentration. It would be recommended to take one capsule daily, and a second capsule can be taken at some point during the day or evening if required.
And then I’ve been recommended to take a few products as required – not daily but just when I feel like I need a boost in any of these areas:
Because I incorporate smoothies into my daily life, I have been sent a selection of some Superfood powders to use. Each of these can be mixed and matched with items that work, depending on my recipe, or additional ingredients that I want to throw in to my smoothie. All of the GOSuperfood products are organic.
Cacao (calming, plus a natural source of magnesium which is great to reduce twitching eyes
Camu Camu (high in Vitamin C)
Acai (powerful antioxidant)
Chia seeds (a plant source of omega 3 fatty acids)
Spirulina (to provide all the key vitamins and minerals, plus this is energising and alkalising)
The GO Vir-Defence are a product that I swear by having already been popping these whenever I feel a cold coming on. Shane and I take these regularly and they really do the trick. The minute you feel run down, have a slight tickle/sore throat, or a runny nose, start taking these (2 at a time if need be) to kick that sickness to the curb and continue to take until symptoms have cleared. This product is amazing at hammering a possible cold and potentially blocking it before it has even started. Contains all the immune boosting ingredients to tackle and defend your body against viruses. Yes please!!
I suffer from cold sores if I allow myself to get really run down, and so this product is just what I need when I feel one coming on. At the first sign of tingling I can take this to help prevent a cold sore from happening, or to accelerate healing.
And for my kids, these Vitamin C Chewables are a hit. They beg for them every single morning (and the little one continues to beg for more all day long!)
I struggle to swallow tablets and most mornings nearly bring up my breakfast as I do my daily ‘meds’, but it’s totally mind over matter and I just have to not think about it too much. Miss 7 wanted to try swallowing a pill yesterday and is so proud of herself for nailing it first time.
Do you take supplements? Have any you swear by to assist in your wellness?
