If there is one thing I wish I was better at, it would be managing money. I’m grateful to have married someone who is clued up on all things financial, because when we met I thought it was pretty impressive that I had a couple of thousand dollars in my savings account, when in reality my credit card was sitting at the very same level of debt which my savings could have wiped. I had no idea that wasn’t a smart way to be operating my finances.
For this and several other money related faux pas, it has long been my intention to teach my kids to be smart with money. It’s a lesson that can never steer them wrong! So when ASB approached us to ask if we’d be interested in welcoming Clever Kash into the family for my big kids, I said yes in (less than) a heartbeat.
We’ve been ASB customers for years now so it really was a no-brainer. Essentially Clever Kash is a cashless moneybox or piggybank, available to children ages 4-12 to reintroduce and reinforce the magical art of saving to our young ones and to teach them the way that savings (in) and spending (out) works in an easy to see fashion.
Tahlia & Aston’s current piggy banks are a wreck. They’re constantly wanting to count their money which leads to repeated opening up, losing coins, losing the plug so they can’t shut them up again and so the crisis continues. Did I mention the littlest one getting his hands on the piggy banks to also count the money? Yes, this current arrangement is working for no one.
Clever Kash is the answer to a mama’s prayers, and particularly a mama who virtually never carries cash. The number of times I have had to make excuses for the Tooth Fairy’s failure to show the night before is embarrassing, and probably not unfamiliar to the modern day parent. Although on further thought I wouldn’t use Clever Kash for this or they’ll quickly figure out that the The Tooth Fairy is really me. Another way I see this really working for us is for special occasions when grandparents and great grandparents prefer to gift money than things. Clever Kash will make life so simple – no more faffing around with having to get to the bank to manually deposit cheques.
We ourselves pay for everything electronically and we live in an age where that form of virtual monetary transaction is not likely to change, so it makes sense to educate my children in a similar system right?
I already have the ASB app on my mobile because I love it for paying bills, transferring money between accounts and checking balances, but now I can also control Clever Kash for both my big kids from my phone. It could not be more straight forward. You can check out this video here to find out more and see how he works.
I love that there is the opportunity to set up saving goals within the Clever Kash system. This allows my kids to actually save towards something specific, and to apply a saving goal date if desired. We’re going to chat further about things they’d like to earn for and input that detail into the app.
For existing ASB customers, Clever Kash is free and you need to sign up for the wait list on the website. If you are not currently an ASB customer, it’s easy enough to sign up so check details on their website.
