I’ve found the holy grail of an easy every day 5 minute face. I apply it on my daily commute – stalled at roundabouts, stopped at red lights and shuffling along in traffic jams so it takes me more like fifteen minutes, but either way it’s a winner.
The end result is a face of make up but without looking like I am wearing a face of make up.
I start with the new Smashbox Colour Correcting Sticks – Green (look less red) and Peach (look less tired). I’ve always used concealer but never coloured versions and to be honest was a little disbelieving when I received these at a recent launch. Holy macaroni – I’m converted! The green counteracts red and though my skin is not overly red, I have a couple of small red spots on my face that this pencil just obliterates. I am loving the Peach for under my eyes. Instantly I look less half asleep. I have always used cream concealers before but this formulation is so easy to apply in pencil form and as soon as I blend it with my finger it turns from cream to powder and effortlessly glides on to conceal dark circles. Life made!
Follow up comes in the form of the new Smashbox Studio Skin 24-hour Concealer. Liquid/cream formula applied with a doe wand, a concealer with ample coverage but a light consistency so it blends beautifully and feels light on the skin. I use this under my eyes, for small uneven colouring on my chin and any scars left behind from those pesky mid-cycle pimples.
Once all my spots have been concealed, I take my kabuki brush and sparsely apply what has long been my favourite base – the Antipodes Mineral Foundation in Light Yellow. A natural product with no nasties and a beautiful coverage powder that glides on easily with the brush. I love the even look this Mineral Foundation gives my skin.
I use a clear brow gel on my brows which I have recently had ‘feather-touched’ at Lash Noir Ink. I’m due for my second session in a couple of weeks but have fallen in love with the not having to fill them in each day. I use whatever affordable product I can find and right now I’m liking this Ardell Professional Clear Gel which helps me groom my brows and keeps them from falling down as I have quite long brow hairs.
For years (I’m talking 15) I used M.A.C’s Shroom as my base shadow and would wear it even if I didn’t use any other colours with it. On a trip to Hawaii recently, instead of repurchasing my go-to, I decided to try something with a little less pearlescent, and a little more pink. Naked Lunch is my new bestie for my lids and I absolutely adore it’s natural tones. I give it a quick sweep across my eyes, with my new Sephora Pro Crease Brush #10. If I’m feeling like a little more depth is required, I’ll add a tiny bit of the new Smashbox Photo Op Eyeshadow in Nude for extra effect.
Mascara is key to any make up look in my books and for the past few months, I have been loving Smashbox’s X-Rated Mascara. I love that this is a buildable mascara and is both lengthening and volumising.
My cheeks get a hint of colour thanks to the beautiful tone of M.A.C’s Trace Gold Powder Blush – gold with the perfect amount of shimmer. I finish it all off with a swipe of cream highlighter across my cheek bones, down my nose, my cupids bow and above each brow. The Smashbox LA Lights Blendable formulation is both a lip and cheek colour, although I’ve not used it on my lips to date. I just love the extra glow it gives me.
From here I can go bright if I want a bolder look on my lips, but recently I’ve been more than happy with a subtle, understated look and am loving the rich fully saturated colour of M.A.C’s new Liptensity in Doe – a soft brown that gives my look a sense of completion but isn’t overpowering.
So, that’s my latest 5 minute Daily Make Up Routine. Hope you enjoyed x
