It’ll come as no surprise that my eyebrows are the most important feature on my face. Not because they’re my favourite feature, but because they’re the one thing I can not leave the house without applying. Years back it was mascara as my must have beauty product, these days it’s definitely brow powder.
I feel ghost like and incomplete when my brows are au natural and naked.
Around a year ago the microblading, feather-brow, brow tattooing phenomenon began to take shape. I started researching and making enquiries about how it all actually works. We’ve all heard stories and seen photos of tattooed on, permanent make up and I’m sure it goes without saying, my hesitation to go permanent was very much influenced by those horror stories and accompanying images.
So I waited a while. I began following some well reputed establishments on Instagram and was constantly wowed by the before and after pictures. I just couldn’t understand how the end result was created by a simple series of inked lines when it looked so much like actual hair. I was sold.
By the time I was ready to take the plunge and book in for my first tattoo, the best in the business was six months deep in bookings! Undeterred and determined to wait for her magic hand to be free for me, I booked in and began my countdown. Suprisingly (or not given the whirlwind that has been 2016), four weeks ago I found myself sitting at Lash Noir having my numbing cream applied and waiting for the first step towards perfect brows.
The process is very straightforward and to my great surprise completely painless. The anaesthetic cream is applied an hour before the feather stroking procedure begins so you literally feel nothing except the movement of pressure across your face. The actual tattooing part took around 25 minutes and at the end I sat up to find my brows looking already a million times more amazing than before. We went for a very natural colour and look and during my second session, Rebecca will deepen the shade slightly, as well as add extra fullness to my brows.
I didn’t tell my husband I was having them done and it took three days before I couldn’t hold my tongue any longer and had to ask him if he could notice anything different. After staring at my face for around four minutes he said “Is it your eyebrows?” I loved that he took that long to figure it out because when I had first voiced my interest in the procedure a year ago, he balked and was not at all on board. His inability to notice the change could have signalled his lack of attention to my details (ha!), but I like to think was more directly related to the fact that the change was so subtle and the results very natural.
