Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year. It’s the most magical, the most exciting and the time of year that memories are truly made of. But it’s only those things for my kids, and probably yours too.
There are plenty of other kids in our fair land who do not experience the magic of Christmas due to circumstances out of their control. So while we are waking up on Christmas morning in cozy beds, wearing new PJ’s gifted on Christmas Eve and bounding out to a beautifully decorated tree where a fully loaded stash of beautifully wrapped gifts awaits, this isn’t necessarily everyone’s reality.
When BNZ asked me if I would take my kids shopping for those less fortunate and test out their new Android Pay, I said of course. I’ve been desperate for a way to show my kids how important it is to give to others and that the lifestyle they’ve become used to is not normal. We headed to The Warehouse armed with a Samsung phone (loaned for the purpose of this experience) pre-loaded with some cash and set about selecting gifts. The big kids were so into it – choosing things they would love for themselves, but fully understanding these were not for them. The two year struggled big time. It is a concept we clearly need to work on with him!
Android Pay has this month launched in New Zealand – just in time for Christmas. BNZ has launched the contactless payment solution with Google, offering BNZ Flexi Debit Visa cardholders the first chance to use Android Pay in New Zealand for their everyday banking. It’s super easy to use – no need to even take your wallet into the store, your phone is literally all you need. Just tap your smart phone against the eft-pos terminal and boom, paid for! It’s genius!
We came home and wrapped up all our goodies, excited to know they would be brightening some little children’s day come December 25th.
Thank you BNZ for the chance to give back and to be the first to test out your new technology. Maybe it’s time for me to switch to an Android!?
