Summer in New Zealand seems to come later and later each year, but when it arrives, it does so with a fury. A hot, sweltering fury that, if you allow it, is capable of burning you to a crisp.
As a fair youth I well recall sunburned sections of my body preventing me sitting comfortably come evening after a day at the beach and that awful sensation of peeling back blistered sunburned skin on my shoulders was a regular occurrence. It’s safe to say applying sunscreen was never my parents strong suit. Probably because mother used to sunbake wearing butter. Yup, you heard it here first!
With the exception of my baby, my children have not the lily white skin of their Mama thankfully, but it is my express desire that not one of them ever experience sunburn to the extent that I did. I am fastidious about lathering them up and ensuring they are kept as protected from the harsh UV rays of our Kiwi sun as they can be, whilst still enjoying rich levels of Vitamin D.
We’re not going away this Summer because we have been living out of a suitcase and camping around the grandparents houses for over two months now. But that won’t stop us hitting local beaches for a series of day trips as well as playgrounds, swimming pools and other forms of outdoor play. Outdoor play that requires the protection from the sun that only a hat and sunscreen can provide.
The Garnier Ambre Solaire Easy Peasy range now includes a Wet Skin Lotion and an Anti-Sand Spray and both are going to be my best friend this Summer. They’re paraben and colourant free which are both important things to me when looking for what products I’ll put on my kids skin, but they are easy to apply, there’s no streaking or ghostly white residue and they smell nice. I’m a sucker for nice smelling things. And, I love that they older my kids, they can even apply their sunscreen themselves. I’ll always assist though because there’s nothing worse than a teensy bit of skin that didn’t get slathered properly in sunscreen.
We’ve been testing out the new products whenever the sun’s been blessing us with some heat over the past month or so and we like what we’re experiencing. Both the Wet Skin Lotion and Anti-sand Spray go on wet skin with no compromise on coverage or application effectiveness, they absorbs quickly and are water resistant for up to 80 minutes.
